"WILL ADD MUCH TO ATTTRACTIVENESS OF LOCALITY"

ELECTRIC WATER DISPLAY TO BE INSTALLED IN LINCOLN MEMORIAL REFLECTING POOL

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On June 28, 1923, the Evening Star reports "an electrical water display is to be provided in the transverse reflecting pool of the Lincoln Memorial near 17th Street."

The Star says that this display "is expected to add much to the attractiveness of the locality."

The display will include two fountains at opposite ends of the pool throwing a vertical stream along with 125 jets along the edges throwing streams toward the center.

Installation of the water display will be directed by Lt. Col. Clarence O. Sherrill*, officer-in-charge of public buildings and grounds.

JFK+50 NOTE

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool is the largest of many reflecting pools in the Nation's Capital.  It was designed by Henry Bacon & constructed 1922-23.  It is lined by walking paths and shade trees on both sides.  

*Lt. Col. Clarence O. Sherrill was appointed on March 21, 1921.
