"A SERIES OF PHYSIOLOGICAL EXPERIMENTS"

L.A. DOCTOR STAYS 'CONTINUOUSLY AWAKE' FOR 59 HOURS

Los Angeles, California (JFK+50) On April 11, 1924, Dr. William F. Kelly, a physician practicing here in Los Angeles, enjoyed "an undisturbed slumber...after a series of physiological experiments which...kept him awake almost continuously for fifty-nine days."

The purpose of these experiments, according to Dr. Kelly, "was for the subject to get on the threshold of unconsciousness" just before falling off to sleep and "then to tell...what is going on in his mind."

The Associated Press does not inform us what "the subject" told observers of the experiment.  It certainly would be interesting to know.

JFK+50 NOTE

According to the Cleveland Clinic, severe sleep deprivation over an extended period of time can worsen many major health conditions, but is "usually treatable."
