RAILROAD COMPANY WAREHOUSE ROBBED OF $12,000 WORTH OF ITALIAN PORT WINE
Chicago, Illinois (JFK+50) On February 10, 1925, Associated Press reports "fifteen armed men in five automobiles...raided a Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad Company* warehouse" early today here in the Windy City.
The men got away with forty-six barrels of port wine after forcing the warehouse engineer to assist them.
The wine, property of the Italian Vineyard Company**, was valued at $12,000.
Six men went inside the warehouse while the rest of the gang waited outside. Although "bound" by the robbers before leaving, Dan Kelleher, the engineer, managed to free himself.
*Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad Company (1925-1928) was the largest employer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
**Italian Vineyard Company, founded by Secondo Guasti, established a 5000 acre vineyard in the Cucamonga Valley in 1900. IVC became a leader in California's wine industry.
