"WINE WAS COMMON ENOUGH IN BIBLICAL DAYS"

PROFESSOR TAKES ISSUE WITH 'PROHIBITION BIBLE'

Stockton, California (JFK+50) On March 16, 1925, The Evening Star reports that Professor George Colliver* says that the so-called 'Prohibition Bible' is "unscholarly (and) seeks to disguise historical fact."

The College of the Pacific** professor's viewpoint on this non-traditional bible is "to rule out all references to wine makes this unauthentic 'shorter' bible untrue."

Colliver points out that wine was "common enough in biblical days."

*George Colliver was head of the department of religious education at the College of the Pacific.

**College of the Pacific is a liberal arts college founded in Santa Clara, California in 1851.  COTP was re-located in Stockton, CA in 1911.
