PINCHOT WANTS BUTLER TO SUCCEED HIM AS PENNSYLVANIA GOVERNOR
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (JFK+50) On May 24, 1925, The Sunday Star reports that Pennsylvania Governor Gifford Pinchot* "hopes to land" General Smedley Darlington Butler** "to succeed himself in the executive office."
The Governor wants the General as a "running mate" in next year's Senate election and in the process hopes that his policies will be carried on in the Pennsylvania governor's office.
JFK+50 Note
Pinchot's plan didn't quite work out as he finished 3rd in a 3-man Republican Senate primary race in 1926 receiving 23.36% of the vote. GP did win back the governorship of Pennsylvania in 1930.
