MINISTERS & DIPLOMATS VIEW RUSSIAN CROWN JEWELS
Moscow (JFK+50) On May 26, 1925, foreign ministers and ambassadors stationed here in Moscow "saw the Russian crown jewels."
They were seen where they are stored at the state vault. The showing of the jewels by the Bolsheviks* was done to prove that they had not "disappeared or been reduced in number."
Associated Press reports "the display was dazzling." Estimated value of the crown jewels has been put at $50 million.
Included in the display are scepters, necklaces, bracelets and precious stones.
*Bolsheviks were a radical faction of the Social Democratic Labor Party led by Vladimir Lenin. They became the Communist Party with the overthrow of the Czar & establishment of the Soviet Union (USSR).
