"TRUMAN LASHES OUT AT REPUBLICANS"

PRESIDENTIAL TRAIN HEADS EAST AFTER TRUMAN'S 3-DAY CALIFORNIA VISIT

Truman's Special Train (JFK+50) On June 15, 1948, "The Truman safari (via train) turned eastward...after President Harry S Truman's three-day visit in California."

According to FDR's son, James Roosevelt*, the presidential visit "very definitely" added to the Democratic cause.

Yesterday, Mr. Truman was greeted by as many as 1 million people in Los Angeles as he lashed out at Republicans "for failing to do something about price controls."

JFK+50 NOTE

I chose June 15, 1948 for today's post because it is my day of birth.  I was born in Knoxville, Tennessee.   My birth was not an easy one for my mother because I arrived a month early.  It was touch & go even to the point where the doctor had my Dad decide which of us should be saved if it came to that.  Fortunately, we both made it.  My Mom, who is a native of Australia, is living with me now & will be 100 years old in Oct.

I was married on June 15, 1971 also here in Knoxville.  My wife, Beverly, passed 26 months ago and we would have celebrated our 54th wedding anniversary today.

*James Roosevelt (1907-1991) was born in New York City & served as FDR's secretary 1937-1938, & as a member of the US House of Representatives (D-California) 1955-1965.  JR was chairman of the California Democratic Party 1946-1948 & played a key role in JFK's 1960 presidential campaign.
