"LEFT WITH A BIG BLUE BRUISE"

HUNTER GETS KICKED IN STOMACH BY 'HOOCHED UP' BULLFROG

Hagerstown, Maryland (JFK+50) On July 3, 1925, The Washington Times reports that last evening "a former member of the Maryland legislature and a prominent attorney" here in Hagerstown was "kicked in the abdomen" by a drunken bullfrog*.

It turns out moonshiners have been dumping their 'mash' in the mountain streams causing the resident bullfrogs to get 'hooched** up."

Mr. Joseph W. Wolfinger went bullfrog hunting on a pond located at his estate near Hagerstown when the 18 inch long bullfrog kicked him in the stomach as the attorney attempted to lift the creature out of the water.

The former legislator was left with "a big blue bruise."

*bullfrog is a large true frog native to eastern North America.  It inhabits swamps, ponds & lakes & gets its name from the sound the male makes during breeding season.

**hooch is a term referring to alcoholic liquor, especially that of inferior quality, such as illegal whiskey or 'moonshine.'
