JAPAN SURRENDERED, WWII ENDED 80 YEARS AGO TODAY

Tokyo, Japan (JFK+50) On September 2, 1945, representatives of the Emperor of Japan signed the Instruments of Surrender aboard the U.S.S. Missouri anchored in Tokyo Bay.

At 0902 hours, General Douglas MacArthur* said...

"It is my hope that a better world shall emerge out of the blood and carnage of the past to the fulfillment of...freedom, tolerance and justice."

*MacArthur was Commander in the Southwest Pacific & Supreme Commander For the Allied Powers
