"SECRET SERVICE AGENTS ARRIVE IN ANCHORAGE"

PRESIDENT HARDING DEPARTS JUNEAU FOR ALASKA INTERIOR

Juneau, Alaska Territory (JFK+50) On July 11, 1923,  President Warren G. Harding sailed from the capital of the Alaska Territory "carrying with him memories of a most pleasant day."

The President plans to stop at Skagway* en route to Seward.  The President's last day in Juneau was rainy and today the rain continued as he departed on the Henderson.  Mr. Harding's last event in the evening before departure was a reception at the Governor's mansion.

The Associated Press reports that a number of secret service agents have arrived in Anchorage, along with deputy U.S. marshals, "to guard President Harding on his trip over the Alaska Railway into the interior."

*Skagway is a compact city in Southeastern Alaska set along the popular cruise route inside the Passage.  Founded in 1897, it is home to gold-rush era buildings.
