UNCLE TED WALKS SWEET CAROLINE DOWN THE AISLE

KENNEDY-SCHOLOSSBERG WEDDING AT CENTERVILLE

Centerville, Massachusetts (JFK+50) On July 19, 1986, the daughter of President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy, Caroline Bouvier Kennedy*married Edwin Scholossberg** at Our Lady of Victory Church here in Centerville.

The matron of honor was Caroline's cousin, Maria Shriver, and her uncle, Senator Edward M. "Ted" Kennedy, walked her down the aisle.  Caroline's mother, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, planned the event.

The bride wore a beautiful white gown designed by Carolina Herrera.  The bodice, according to About.com, was covered with embroidered shamrocks.
Caroline wore a tulle veil and carried a bouquet of orchids.  Her earrings were a gift from her father to her mother.

There were 7 bridesmaids, 2 flower girls and 10 ushers.  The reception following the service was held on the lawn of the Kennedy Compound in Hyannis Port.  The 400 guests were entertained by singer Carly Simon.

THE SMALL CHURCH DECORATED WITH FLOWERS OF CAPE COD

TED KENNEDY ESCORTS CAROLINE DOWN THE AISLE

Centerville, Massachusetts (JFK+50) On July 19, 1986, the daughter of President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy, Caroline Bouvier Kennedy*married Edwin Scholossberg** at Our Lady of Victory Church here in Centerville.  The small church was decorated, according to Fox Butterfield, "with the flowers of Cape Cod."

The bride's brother, John F. Kennedy, Jr. was best man while the matron of honor was Caroline's cousin, Maria Shriver. Uncle Ted, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, walked her down the aisle.  Caroline's mother, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, planned the event.

The bride, 28 years old, wore a beautiful white gown designed by Carolina Herrera.  The bodice, according to About.com, was covered with embroidered shamrocks.

She also wore a tulle veil and carried a bouquet of orchids.  Her earrings were a gift from her father to her mother.  There were 7 bridesmaids, 2 flower girls and 10 ushers.

The reception following the service was held on the lawn of the Kennedy Compound in Hyannis Port.  The 400 guests were entertained by singer Carly Simon.  Attendees at the wedding included JFK aides, Ted Sorenson, Dave Powers and Arthur Schlesinger, Jr.

CAROLINE KENNEDY'S WEDDING

CAROLINE WED 28 YEARS AGO TODAY

Centerville, Massachusetts (JFK+50) The daughter of President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy, Caroline Bouvier Kennedy*married Edwin Scholossberg** twenty-eight years ago today, July 19, 1986, at Our Lady of Victory Church here in Centerville.

Caroline and Ed met at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City in 1981

President Barack Obama appointed Ms. Kennedy as United States Ambassador to Japan last year.  She was sworn in by Secretary of Defense John Kerry and began her service on November 12, 2013.

Caroline Kennedy is an  accomplished author.  Her books include "In Our Defense: The Bill of Rights in Action," 1991, and "The Right to Privacy," 1995.

CAROLINE KENNEDY MARRIED EDWIN SCHOLOSSBERG 27 YEARS AGO

Centerville, Massachusetts (JFK+50) The daughter of President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy, Caroline Bouvier Kennedy*married Edwin Scholossberg 27 years ago today, July 19, 1986.

The marriage ceremony took place here in Centerville at Our Lady of Victory Church.  

The matron of honor was Caroline's cousin, Maria Shriver and her Uncle Senator Edward M. "Ted" Kennedy walked her down the aisle.

Caroline and Ed met at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The couple have three children...

According to a recent story in the Washington Post, an announcement that Caroline Kennedy will be appointed the next United States Ambassador to Japan is imminent.

If Caroline Kennedy is appointed and confirmed, she would become the first woman to hold the position.  She would follow in the footsteps of Senators Mike Mansfield and Howard Baker, Jr., House Speaker Tom Foley and Vice President Walter Mondale.

**Edwin Arthur Scholossberg was born in New York City on July 19, 1945.  He was the child of Jewish immigrants from the Ukraine.  He earned degrees at Columbia University including a doctorate in science and literature.

Mr. Scholossberg founded ESI Design which specializes in interactive computerized displays such as a learning environment at the Brooklyn's Children Museum and another on immigrant history at Ellis Island.


He has authored 9 books and was appointed US Commissioner of Fine Arts by President Obama in 2011.

FIRST WOMEN'S RIGHTS CONVENTION MET IN SENECA FALLS 165 YEARS AGO TODAY

Seneca Falls, New York (JFK+50) The 1st women's rights convention ever held in the United States opened 165 years ago today, July 19, 1848, at Wesleyan Chapel here in Seneca Falls.

About 200 women were on hand for the opening of the convention.

The meeting was organized by Lucretia Mott*** and Elizabeth Cady Stanton****.

Ms. Stanton read a "Declaration of Sentiments and Grievances" to the convention.  It states:

"We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men and women are created equal."

Men were allowed to attend the 2nd day of the Seneca Falls Convention.  Of the 40 men in attendance on that day, the abolitionist Frederick Douglass was the most prominent.

***Lucretia Coffin Mott (1793-1880) was born in Nantucket, Massachusetts and graduated from Nine Partners Quaker Boarding School.  She became a teacher before becoming active in the anti-slavery and women's rights movements.  She was the 1st president of the American Equal Rights Association which advocated universal suffrage.

****Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815-1902) was born in Johnstown, NY and attended Johnstown Academy and Troy Female Seminary.  She became an abolitonist and suffragist as well as a writer.  She was the 1st president of the National American Women's Suffrage Association.




US SEVERED TIES WITH PERU 50 YEARS AGO 

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) The Kennedy administration announced at the White House 50 years ago today, July 19, 1963, that the United States would cease sending economic aid to Peru and would also suspend diplomatic relations with the Latin American nation.

The announcement followed the seizure of power in Lima by Peru's military.

JFK AND JACKIE ATTENDED CHRISTENING OF NEPHEW 50 YEARS AGO TODAY

Hyannis Port, Massachusetts (JFK+50) President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy attended the christening of nephew Christopher George Kennedy***** 50 years ago today, July 19, 1963.

The baby is the son of Robert and Ethel Kennedy.

The christening took place at St. Francis Xavier Church here in Hyannis Port.

*****Christopher George Kennedy was born on July 4, 1963 in Boston.  He received his BA degree from Boston College and studied at the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management.  He was president of the Merchandise Mart Properties in Chicago until April 2012 and then started Top Box Foods to supply discounted groceries to areas in need.
