"WAIT UNTIL SENATOR KENNEDY GOES INTO BOSTON"

JFK WILL TRY TO PICTURE NIXON AS A DEFEATIST ON ALL ISSUES

Hyannis Port, Massachusetts (JFK+50) On October 1, 1960, The Evening Star reports Democratic presidential nominee Senator John F. Kennedy "will try to defeat Vice-President (Richard M.) Nixon...by picturing him as a defeatist..." on both national and international issues.

The Vice-President, speaking in Boston, called the Senator "a monumental failure" in the post-convention session of Congress.

A large crowd, estimated to be at 250,000, came out to hear Mr. Nixon's remarks but Pierre Salinger, JFK's press secretary, says...

"Wait until Senator Kennedy goes into Boston."

JFK+50 NOTE

JFK won Suffolk County, which includes Boston, 75% to 25%.  It was the first time a presidential candidate won more than 70% of the vote in that county.  JFK also carried Massachusetts 60% to 40%.

"REV EDWIN CURTIS BAPTIZED A DOG"

TWO PASTORS PREPARED TO OFFICIATE EASTER SERVICES AT BROOKLINE PRESBYTERIAN

Brookline, Massachusetts (JFK+50) On Sunday morning April 16, 1922, Easter services were held at the Brookline Presbyterian Church* with "two pastors prepared to officiate."

The clergymen were Rev. Edwin Curtis**, supported by a majority of the congregation, and Rev. Hector Ferguson of the Scotch Presbyterian Church.  The former was elected pastor last week while the latter was appointed to officiate Easter services by the Committee on Vacancy and Supply.

The issue arising in two pastors being present at the same service was that the Boston Presbytery "refused to install Rev. Curtis after hearing reports that he had baptized a dog*** and offered grace by blessing French fried potatoes."

*First Presbyterian Church of Boston, located at 32 Harvard Street since 1910, is today a congregation of 60 members.  The original church burned in 1960 & was rebuilt in 1962.

**Rev. Edwin Curtis was described as "a Britisher & an ecclesiastic with an inappropriate sense of humor."  Although ousted by the Boston Presbytery, his congregation wanted him to stay.

***The dog, Buster Porter, was described as "the only full-fledged Baptized Presbyterian dog in Boston."

May 29, 2012

JOHN F. KENNEDY WOULD HAVE BEEN 95 YEARS OLD TODAY!

Boston, Massachusetts (JFK+50) President John Fitzgerald Kennedy would have been 95 years old today.

The future 35th President of the United States was born in Brookline, a suburb of Boston, Massachusetts, on May 29, 1917.

On November 22, 2013, it will have been 50 years since the 46 year old President was assassinated in Dallas, Texas while riding in an open car motorcade along side his wife, Jacqueline.

JOHN F. KENNEDY BORN IN BROOKLINE

Mr. & Mrs. Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. announced today the birth of their 2nd child, John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

JFK was born at the family home at 83 Beals Street in the Brookline section of Boston, Massachusetts.

The child is the namesake of his grandfather, John F. "Honey Fitz" Fitzgerald, the former mayor of Boston.*

*The Fitzgeralds are on a much higher political & social status than the Kennedys in 1917.

The baby boy, however, will be called "Jack".

Jack has an older brother, Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. who is known as "Joe Jr".

The birth came at 3 in the afternoon in the 2nd floor master bedroom.  The twin bed nearest the window was chosen to give the best light.

Dr. Frederick Good is the family obstetrician who delivered Jack.

The proud father, Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr., is the 28 year old president of Columbia Trust Bank in East Boston.  He is a graduate of Harvard.

Joe Sr.'s dad, Patrick J. Kennedy, was a ward boss & Irish-American community leader in Boston.

All the Boston Kennedys emigrated to America in the 1840s to escape the Irish potato famine.*
