"HE REALLY & TRULY IS GIRL SHY"

PRINCE OF WALES HAS ATTACHED HIMSELF TO THE 'YOUNG MARRIED SET'

New York City (JFK+50) On September 5, 1924, Robert T. Small of The Evening Star reports "the Prince of Wales* really and truly is girl shy."

Small writes that despite this fact, the Prince does "enjoy the society of women.  He loves it."

The Prince of Wales "is just like every other young bachelor who has no present mind for matrimony."  So he has attached himself to the "young married set."

*Edward VIII (1894-1972) was born in Surrey, England & was Prince of Wales 1911-1936.  E VIII was King of U.K. Jan 20 to Dec 10, 1936 & abdicated the throne.  One of the shortest reigning British monarchs, he then became the Duke of Windsor.

"EVERY EFFORT MADE TO MAKE THE PRINCE FEEL AT HOME"

PRINCE OF WALES ARRIVES AT UNION STATION, WELCOMED BY SECRETARY OF STATE HUGHES

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On August 30, 1924, The Washington Times reports the arrival at Union Station today of Edward Windsor*, H.R.H., Prince of Wales.  The Prince was welcomed by Secretary of State Charles Evans Hughes and a large crowd.

The Prince then motored to The White House where he took lunch with President Calvin Coolidge, the First Lady and John Coolidge.  Following was a reception with cabinet officials.

The Times says that every effort was made to make the Prince of Wales feel "at home."

*Edward Windsor, a.k.a. Edward VIII (1894-1972) was born in Surrey, England & served in the Royal Navy & Royal Air Force.  EW became Prince of Wales at age 16 & served as King of UK & British Empire in 1936.  He abdicated the throne after less than one year of service.
