TED KENNEDY BORN ON WASHINGTON'S 200th BIRTHDAY 81 YEARS AGO TODAY!
Dorchester, Massachusetts (JFK+50) The youngest child of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr., Edward Moore "Ted" Kennedy, was born 81 years ago today, February 22, 1932.
That day was the 200th anniversary of the birthday of George Washington.

1962 Senate Campaign
Ted, who was named after his father's assistant, Edward Moore, graduated from Milton Academy in 1950, served in the US Army 1951-1953 & received a BA degree in history & government at Harvard in 1956.
Two years later, Ted was manager for JFK's senate re-election campaign & graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1959.
In 1960, Ted managed the western presidential campaign for his brother Jack & served as assistant DA in Suffolk County, Virginia in 1961.
In 1962, Ted began his long career in the United States Senate. He served as Majority Whip from 1969-1971 but lost a bid to win the Democratic presidential nomination in 1980.

Senator Kennedy worked on the causes of universal health care, immigration, disability discrimination, mental health benefits, children's health insurance & education.
He authored 2500 bills, 300 of which passed & co-sponsored 550 others.
Ted was voted by TIME MAGAZINE in 2006 as one of the 10 BEST United States Senators & the BOSTON GLOBE wrote "By the early 21st century, (Ted's) achievements would...rival those of many presidents."
He is the 3rd longest serving senator in US history behind Robert Byrd of West Virginia & Strom Thurmond of South Carolina.
Senator Kennedy died of brain cancer at the age of 77 in 2009 & is buried along side his brothers Jack & Bob at Arlington National Cemetery.
