BILLY MARTIN'S TAVERN

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) John F. Kennedy, considered to be the most eligible bachelor in the United States Senate, proposed to Jacqueline Lee Bouvier at Billy Martin's Tavern, the oldest family-owned restaurant in the Nation's Capital.

Billy Martin's Tavern, established in 1933 and located at Wisconsin and N Street in Georgetown, is still in operation today.

According to the restaurant's brochure...

"Martin's Tavern has had the honor of serving every president from Harry S Truman to George W. Bush."

During our visit to Washington in 2011, we had the pleasure of dining at Billy Martin's and sat at the window table designated as "The Proposal Booth."

The Martin family came from Galway, Ireland in the late 1890s.

The current owner is Billy Martin IV.  Be sure to check out his blog at www.martins-tavern.com
