TED KENNEDY ESCORTS CAROLINE DOWN THE AISLE
Centerville, Massachusetts (JFK+50) On July 19, 1986, the daughter of President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy, Caroline Bouvier Kennedy*, married Edwin Scholossberg** at Our Lady of Victory Church here in Centerville. The small church was decorated, according to Fox Butterfield, "with the flowers of Cape Cod."
The bride's brother, John F. Kennedy, Jr. was best man while the matron of honor was Caroline's cousin, Maria Shriver. Uncle Ted, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, walked her down the aisle. Caroline's mother, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, planned the event.
The bride, 28 years old, wore a beautiful white gown designed by Carolina Herrera. The bodice, according to About.com, was covered with embroidered shamrocks.
She also wore a tulle veil and carried a bouquet of orchids. Her earrings were a gift from her father to her mother. There were 7 bridesmaids, 2 flower girls and 10 ushers.
The reception following the service was held on the lawn of the Kennedy Compound in Hyannis Port. The 400 guests were entertained by singer Carly Simon. Attendees at the wedding included JFK aides, Ted Sorenson, Dave Powers and Arthur Schlesinger, Jr.
