WHAT JEFFERSON, MADISON, MONROE, CLINTON, GW BUSH & OBAMA HAVE IN COMMON

ONLY TWICE HAVE 3 POTUS IN A ROW SERVED 2 COMPLETE TERMS

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) There have been only two times in United States history that three consecutive presidents served two complete terms.  The emphasis is on COMPLETE.

William Jefferson Clinton (42), George W. Bush (43) and Barack Obama (44) each served two complete terms spanning from 1993 to 2017.  That is very significant historically because it is only the second time that has happened.
Thomas Jefferson (3), James Madison (4) and James Monroe (5) each served two complete terms spanning from 1801-1825.

There have been 14 complete 2 term POTUS.  In addition to the 6 listed above, they also include Washington, Jackson, Grant, Cleveland*, Wilson, FDR, Eisenhower & Reagan.

It gets somewhat confusing when presidents served a long but not complete term.  For example, Theodore Roosevelt assumed the office very early in William McKinley's second term, but was elected on his own once in 1904.
Harry Truman assumed the office very early in FDR's fourth term, but was elected on his own once in 1948.

The longest serving POTUS was Franklin D. Roosevelt who served 1933-1945 having been elected 4 times, serving 3 complete terms but dying in office early in his last term.  The shortest serving POTUS was William Henry Harrison (1841) who died one month after his inauguration.

*Grover Cleveland's two complete terms were non-consecutive.  He was elected in 1884 (1885-1889) defeated for re-election in 1888 by Benjamin Harrison and elected a second time in 1892 (1893-1897).  Grover Cleveland is both the 22nd & the 24th POTUS.
