FIDEL CASTRO SPEAKS ON IMPORTANCE OF SCIENCE TO CUBA
Havana (JFK+50) On January 15, 1960, Fidel Castro* spoke here in Havana at a ceremony sponsored by the Speleological Society of Cuba** at the Academy of the Sciences.
Mr. Castro said...
"The future of our homeland must by necessity be a future of men of science, it must be a future of thinking men because that is precisely what we are sowing the most."
*Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz (1926-2016) was born in Biran, Cuba. His father had fought in the Cuban War for Independence on the side of Spain and in the Spanish-American War. Castro, who was raised in wealth, studied law at the University of Havana. FAC led in the overthrow of Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista & served as prime minister (1959-1976), president (1976-2008), and 1st secretary of the Communist Party (1961-2011).
**Speleological Society of Cuba promotes the progress of Cuba and the caving sciences, policy support, scientific and technological research & contributes to the advancement of science in general.
