ARMISTICE IN KOREA
Panmunjom (JFK+50) On July 27, 1953, an armistice agreement was reached here in Panmunjom by representatives of North and South Korea, the Peoples Republic of China and the United States.
The armistice brought to an end the conflict which began with the North Korean invasion of South Korea on June 25, 1950. The terms of the agreement established a committee to decide the fate of prisoners of war on both sides and also provided for a demilitarized zone or DMZ between North and South Korea.
A marker at the Korean War Memorial in Washington, D.C. reads...
"Our Nation honors her sons and daughters who answered the call to defend a country they never knew and a people they never met."

JFK+50 COMMENT
On a long wall at the Korean War Memorial are inscribed the words "FREEDOM IS NOT FREE." Americans should ever be reminded that our servicemen and women have paid the price for our freedom. Attempts by any foreign power to interfere with that freedom must always be considered as a serious threat.
