"THERE'S A LAND THAT I'VE HEARD OF, ONCE IN A LULABY"

JFK ASKED JUDY GARLAND TO SING 'OVER THE RAINBOW' ON THE PHONE

Hollywood, California (JFK+50) On August 25, 1939, the film produced by MGM Studios and based on the children's book by L. Frank Baum, "The Wizard of Oz," opened in theaters across the nation.
 
The film starred JUDY GARLAND as Dorothy, FRANK MORGAN as the Wizard, RAY BOLGER as the Tin Man, BERT LAHR as the Cowardly Lion and JACK HALEY as the Scarecrow.

Judy Garland campaigned for JFK in 1960 & met him at parties given at Peter Lawford's house.  According to a 2017 book by Garland's third husband, Sid Luft, the President would call Judy on the phone and most often ask her to sing her signature song, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

"The Wizard of Oz" was first televised in 1956 and watched by 45 million people.
