JFK STUMPS IN CONNECTICUT FOR DEMOCRATS
  
Waterbury, Connecticut (JFK+50) On October 17, 1962, President John F. Kennedy campaigned for Democrats here in Waterbury.  The President was accompanied by Governor John N. Dempsey*, Mayor Edward Bergin**, and Senator Thomas J. Dodd***.

The President said...

"This country must go forward, and it only can go forward if we have a House, a Senate, a President, and a Governor all committed to progress.  I want to urge our Democrats...to go out and do the job on November 6th, to provide education for our children, to provide jobs for our workers, to provide security for our older citizens.  All these things can and must be done...and that's what the Democratic Party is willing to do in 1962."

*John Noel Dempsey (1915-1989) was born in Cahir, Ireland, educated at Providence College & served as Governor of Connecticut 1961-1971.

**Edward D. "Mike" Bergin, Jr. (1943-2017) served 7 terms as Mayor of Waterbury, Connecticut, the longest-serving mayor in the city's history.

***Thomas Joseph Dodd (1907-1971) was born in Norwich, Connecticut & graduated from Providence College & Yale Law School.  TJD served as Executive Trial Counsel at the Nuremberg Trials and as U.S. Senator (D-Conn) 1959-1971.
