FDR ASKS FOR WAR DECLARATION
*2335 servicemen dead, 68 civilians dead, 18 ships sunk including 5 battleships.
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On December 8, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, in an address to a joint session of Congress, said...
"Yesterday, December 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy, the United States...was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan."
The President went on to say that there had been many American lives lost and severe damage to our military. The bad news continued. Japan had also attacked Malaya, Hong Kong, Guam, the Philippine Islands, Wake Island and Midway Island.
FDR insisted, however, that..."no matter how long it will take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people, in their righteous might, will win through to absolute victory."
