JFK DIRECTS MILK BE SERVED AT EVERY WHITE HOUSE MEAL
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On January 23, 1962, President John F. Kennedy spoke to the National Conference on Milk and Nutrition in the Departmental Auditorium here in the Nation's Capital. Also in attendance was Secretary of Agriculture Orville L. Freeman*.
The President said...
"I want to say a few words this morning about a very important subject to us all, and that is milk. Almost every State produces milk. It is our most nourishing food, (but) last year...milk consumption declined 2 1/2 per cent."
The President called this decline a serious matter for the dairy industry, for farmers, and for the nation. JFK cautioned that milk production management would "require adjustment."
The President directed that milk would be served at EVERY meal at the White House and added...."I expect that all will benefit from it."
