ELVIS SWORN IN AS ARMY PRIVATE
Memphis, Tennessee (JFK+50) On March 24, 1958, Elvis Aaron Presley*, along with his parents, left Graceland to report to the United States Army Induction Center in downtown Memphis, Tennessee.
From there, the singer was sworn-in as a private at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas. Elvis took basic training at Fort Hood, but during a two-week leave managed to work in a recording session in Nashville during which he recorded five songs.
After basic training, Private Presley was dispatched to Germany where he served with the 3rd Armored Division.
*Elvis Aaron Presley (1935-1977) was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and moved to Memphis, TN. at age 13. EAP made his first record at Sun Records & was later managed by Col. Tom Parker. He was signed by RCA in 1956 and soon recorded his 1st single, a #1 hit, 'Heartbreak Hotel'.
EAP became a movie star & the best-selling singer in history. He was dubbed the "King of Rock 'n Roll".
