SENATOR FRANK CHURCH DELIVERS DNC KEYNOTE ADDRESS
  
Los Angeles, California (JFK+50) On July 11, 1960, Senator Frank Church* delivered the "Keynote Address" of the Democratic National Convention meeting here in Los Angeles.

Senator Church said...

"We are Democrats...because (our party) ... has been the principal party of progress.  No other party...has furnished so many great Presidents...Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Grover Cleveland, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman."

The Senator called attention to the Democratic Party's push for liberal reforms including...

"social security, minimum wage and hour laws, R.E.A. and Federal housing."

Senator Church concluded with these words...

"I say to you:  The issue in the coming election is...whether we can risk another four year ride on the Republican train.  For its the same old train.  To change direction we must change trains."  

*Frank Forrester Church III (1924-1984) was born in Bethesda, MD & graduated from Stanford (BA, LLB) & Harvard.  FFC served in the US Army in WWII and the US Senate 1957-1981.  He was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee 1979-1981.
