NIXON ASKS MISSISSIPPI DEMOCRATS TO VOTE REPUBLICAN
Jackson, Mississippi (JFK+50) Republican presidential nominee Vice-President Richard M. Nixon spoke on September 24, 1960 from the steps of the Governor's Mansion here in Jackson.
The Vice-President noted that his appearance represented the first time in a century that a presidential candidate of either party had campaigned in the state of Mississippi.
Mr. Nixon asked for the support of all voters in the state. The Vice-President reminded his audience that it was American tradition to put country before party in electing a President of the United States. He said...
"I know this is a hard state to win for a Republican candidate (but) we ask for the support of not only Republicans, but of Democrats in this great state."
