PHOTOS TAKEN OVER CUBA ANALYZED BY NPIC
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On October 15, 1962, analysis was taking place at the National Photo Interpretation Center* of 928 images taken the previous day over Cuba by a U-2 reconnaissance aircraft.
The analysis resulted in identification of offensive nuclear missiles and launchers installed on the island. The photographs and analysis was soon made available to President John F. Kennedy and the rest is history.
Jack O'Connor wrote a book on the organization titled, "NPIC: Seeing the Secrets & Growing the Leaders."
*National Photo Interpretation Center (NPIC) was created in 1961 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. It focused on solving national intelligence issues via photo interpretation & imagery analysis. NPIC played a major role in decision-making during the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962 and other Cold War events.
