D.C. RESIDENTS MAY VOTE IN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On March 29, 1961 the 23rd amendment* to the Constitution of the United States allowing the residents of the District of Columbia to vote in presidential elections became the law of the land with ratification by Kansas and Ohio.
The 23rd amendment states...
"A number of electors of President and Vice-President equal to the whole number of Senators and Representatives in Congress which the District would be entitled if it were a state."
The amendment was proposed as a result of the growing population in Washington, D.C.
*The 23rd amendment was passed by Congress on June 16, 1960.
