ATLANTIC FLEET PASSES IN REVIEW FOR PRESIDENT HARDING
Hampton Roads, Virginia (JFK+50) On April 28, 1921, the Atlantic Fleet* "passed in review" for President Warren G. Harding here at Hampton Roads.
The ships were viewed by the President from the Presidential yacht, the Mayflower. Mr. Harding was accompanied by the First Lady, Secretary of the Navy and Chief of Naval Operations.
After the review, President Harding received the officers of the Fleet on board the U.S.S. Pennsylvania.
In a brief speech aboard the flagship, the President said...
"I bid you make our navy the most efficient, conscientious and effective navy in the service of any civilized nation."
*The Atlantic Fleet included 11 battleships, 19 destroyers, & 18 submarines. The review lasted 1 1/4 hours.
