"PRESIDENT WILL NOT BE EMBARRASSED BY THE HOUSE"

SENATE COMMITTEE SUPPORTS HARDING'S WISHES ON DISARMAMENT ISSUE

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On May 4, 1921, the Senate Naval Committee, "guided by the expressed wishes of President (Warren G.) Harding," rejected a proposal by Senator William E. Borah* (R-Idaho) authorizing the President to invite Great Britain and Japan to send representatives to a disarmament conference to be held here in the Nation's Capital.

The Committee informed the White House that...

"the President will not be embarrassed by the House in pressing disarmament legislation."

*William Edgar Borah (1865-1940) was born in Fairfield, Illlinois & educated at the University of Kansas.  WEB served in the US Senate 1907-1940 & was chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations 1924-1933.
