JFK 1ST POTUS TO VISIT IRELAND DURING HIS TERM OF OFFICE
New Ross, Ireland (JFK+50) On June 27, 1963, John F. Kennedy became the first POTUS to visit Ireland during his term of office. President Kennedy was greeted at Gaelic Field here in New Ross* by school children waving American flags and singing JFK's favorite Irish songs.
President Kennedy said...
"When my great grandfather left here to become a cooper in East Boston, he carried...two things: a strong religious faith and a strong desire for liberty."
*New Ross is located on the River Barrow in SW County Wexford, Ireland. It dates back to the pre-Middle Ages. A statue of JFK is located on the quayside & the Kennedy Ancestral Homestead is 5 miles South.
