"A STRONG DESIRE FOR LIBERTY"

JFK 1ST POTUS TO VISIT IRELAND DURING HIS TERM OF OFFICE

New Ross, Ireland (JFK+50) On June 27, 1963, John F. Kennedy became the first POTUS to visit Ireland during his term of office.  President Kennedy was greeted at Gaelic Field here in New Ross* by school children waving American flags and singing JFK's favorite Irish songs.

President Kennedy said...

"When my great grandfather left here to become a cooper in East Boston,  he carried...two things:  a strong religious faith and a strong desire for liberty."

*New Ross is located on the River Barrow in SW County Wexford, Ireland.  It dates back to the pre-Middle Ages.  A statue of JFK is located on the quayside & the Kennedy Ancestral Homestead is 5 miles South.
