"IT'S UP TO THE HOUSE"

HOUSE CONFEREES WALK OUT ON NAVAL APPROPRIATIONS

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On June 16, 1921, conferees of the House of Representatives refused to accept Senate increases in the Naval Appropriations Bill and "walked out of the conference room."

According to the New York Tribune, this means "many days of delay in reaching any agreement" and that sentiment in the House opposed to the Senate bill "is strong."

Senator Miles Poindexter (R-Washington), acting chairman of the Naval Committee, said...

"It's up to the House."

*Miles Poindexter (1868-1946) was born in Memphis, TN & earned his LLB at Washington & Lee University (1891).  MP's father was a Confederate civil war veteran.
