JUDGE SAYS U.S. SPENDING TOO MUCH ON ARMAMENTS
Williamstown, Massachusetts (JFK+50) On June 20, 1921, Judge George W. Anderson* said that "abandonment of ideals had turned the World War victory into defeat."
The Judge made the remarks at Williams College's commencement exercises held here in Williamstown.
Judge Anderson, an alumnus of the college, also said...
"Germany...appears to be the only victor."
and added that the United States was spending far too much money on armaments.
It was his belief that other nations of the world were of the opinion that "we were preparing for another war."
*George Weston Anderson (1861-1938) was born in Acworth, New Hampshire & graduated from Williams College, 1886. GWA earned his LLB at Boston University School of Law.
GWA served as US Attorney for the District of Massachusetts 1914-1917 & as Judge of US Court of Appeals 1918-1931.
