JFK & KHRUSHCHEV MEET AT SUMMIT
Vienna, Austria (JFK+50) On June 3, 1961, President John F. Kennedy of the United States and Premier Nikita Khrushchev of the Soviet Union met in person for the first time. The meeting took place at the American Embassy here in Vienna.
The President arrived at Schwechat Airport where he said...
"We are grateful to the city of Vienna and to the government of Austria for the hospitality they have afforded us."
The two world leaders met for a four hour session. The President was accompanied by Secretary of State Dean Rusk and National Security Adviser McGeorge Bundy. The Premier was assisted by Andrei Gromyko and Anatoliy Dobrynin.
Among the issues discussed were Berlin, Laos and nuclear testing.
