"FIRST MEETING OF DISARMAMENT COMMISSION"

HARDING DISARMAMENT ASSURED SUPPORT OF LEAGUE

Paris (JFK+50) On July 16, 1921, President Warren G. Harding's "international conference on disarmament...was assured of the support of the League of Nations."

This development came at the first meeting of the disarmament commission held in Luxembourg Palace.  Chairing the League of Nations commission was Rene Viviani* of France who said...

"We have not been surprised that the Chief Executive of the great American nation...has so often stressed the subject of disarmament."

*Jean Raphael Rene Viviani (1863-1925) was born in Sidi Bel Abbes, French Algeria & served as prime minister of France during the first year of WWI.
