"FRANCE CAN NEVER FORGET WHAT AMERICA DID"

MARSHAL FOCH SENDS PRAISE TO AMERICA

Paris (JFK+50) On July 3, 1921, Marshal Ferdinand Foch* of France, commander-in-chief of the Allied armies, sent a message to America on its' Independence Day celebration.

Marshal Foch praised the American people for "unparalleled effort" which helped bring victory in the recent world war for the Allies.

Marshal Foch's message read, in part...

"In celebrating America's Independence Day...France does not only commemorate the heroic days (of)...Lafayette but...when the American nation stood (for) the defense of...the liberty of the world.

France can never forget what America did."

*Ferdinand Foch (1851-1929) was born in Tarbes, France.  He was a professor of military history before serving as 26th Chief of Army Staff 1917-1918 & Supreme Allied Commander 1918-1920.  He was acclaimed as "the most original military thinker of his generation."
