"AS A BIG ARMY & BIG NAVY MAN"

SENATOR HARRISON CALLS ON SENATOR LODGE TO CHANGE HIS PAST VIEWS

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On August 17, 1921, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge of Massachusetts told the Senate that "he would do everything in his power to bring about an agreement" at the international disarmament conference "for a general reduction of armaments."

The Senator specifies he favors "a general reduction" as opposed to a reduction by the United States only.

Senator Pat Harrison* of Mississippi called upon Senator Lodge to "change his past views...as a big army and big navy man" in his service in behalf of the United States at the disarmament conference.

*Senator Byron Patton "Pat" Harrison (1881-1941) was born in Crystal Springs, Mississippi & served in the U.S. House of Representatives 1911-1919 & the U.S. Senate 1919-1941.  BPH , known as "Gadfly of the Senate," was chairman of the Senate Finance Committee 1933-1941.
