"INSTRUCTIONS RECEIVED BY COMMISSIONER DRESEL"

PEACE TREATY AWAITS SIGNATURE BY GERMAN PRESIDENT

Berlin, Germany (JFK+50) On August 23, 1921, "final instructions relative to the treaty of peace between the United States and Germany" were received by U.S. commissioner Ellis Loring Dresel* here in Berlin.

The instructions, sent by Secretary of State Charles Evans Hughes, await signatures by representatives of the German government.

It is expected that the documents will be signed by President Friedrich Ebert** and either Dr. Joseph Warren, chancellor, or Friedrich Rosen, foreign minister.

*Ellis Loring Dresel (1865-1925) was born in Boston, MA & earned his BA & LLB at Harvard University.  ELD served as US Ambassador to Germany, 1921-1922.

**Friedrich Ebert (1871-1925) was born in Heidelberg & served as president of Germany 1919-1925.
