FIDEL ARRIVES IN NEW YORK CITY
New York City (JFK+50) On September 18, 1960, Cuban premier Fidel Castro arrived here in New York City to head his country's delegation at the United Nations.
Castro and his party took accommodations at the Theresa Hotel* in Harlem where he met with Malcolm X and Langston Hughes.
In his speech at the United Nations, Castro criticized American imperialism.
*Hotel Theresa, located at 2082-96 Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Blvd in Harlem (Manhattan) New York. The 13 story hotel was built in 1912-1913 became known as "the Waldorf of Harlem."
