"GERMANS CONCEAL ARMIES UNDER CIVILIAN GUISE"

GERMANS PERFECT MACHINE GUN CAPABLE OF HITTING TARGETS 1/2 MILE DISTANT

London (JFK+50) On October 18, 1921, a correspondent of the London Times was informed that "the Germans have perfected a triple-barreled machine gun*...capable of spreading 2000 rounds a minute" as well as hitting a target one-half mile away.

The production of this 22 pound weapon, reports the New York Tribune, is an example of "how German industries are devising engines of war (while) concealing her armies under civilian guise."

*machine gun is an automatic weapon designed for sustained direct fire with fully powdered cartridges.  First practical self-powered mg was invented in 1884 by Sir Hiram Maxim.  This mg was used by all sides in WWI.
