"INTERNATIONAL COMMUNIST PLOT AGAINST AMERICANS IN EUROPE"

BOMB PACKAGE SENT TO U.S. AMBASSADOR IN PARIS EXPLODES WOUNDING VALET

Paris (JFK+50) "An international Communist plot against Americans in Europe, stretching from the North Sea to the Mediterranean," has been uncovered by French police.

Wilbur Forrest, in a report to the New York Tribune dated October 20, 1921, writes that police...

"are seeking the perpetrators of a bomb outrage last night at the residence of Ambassador Myron T. Herrick* in the Avenue de Messine."

A package containing a bomb was opened by the Ambassador's valet, who was wounded in the explosion.

The  American Embassy has received hundreds of threatening letters this week, one of which warns "that vengeance will be wreaked if (Sacco & Vanzetti) are put to death for murder in Massachusetts."

*Myron Timothy Herrick (1854-1929) was born in Huntington, Ohio & educated at Oberlin & Ohio Wesleyan University.  He was Governor of Ohio 1904-06, & Ambassador to France 1912-14 & 1921-29.
