BABE RUTH'S INJURY KEEPS HIM OUT OF LINEUP FOR REST OF WORLD SERIES
New York City (JFK+50) On October 8, 1921, New York Yankee slugger George Herman (Babe) Ruth* appeared at the Polo Grounds with his arm in a sling.
The Babe had been injured attempting to steal second base in a game two weeks earlier with the Cleveland Indians. Dr. George D. Stewart operated on Ruth Friday evening, October 7. An incision was made one inch above the elbow on his left arm.
Dr. Stewart ordered Ruth to "rest his throwing arm for at least a week" effectively ending any chance that the slugger would play in the remaining games of the 1921 World Series**.
Babe Ruth said...
"My absence won't hurt the Yanks. It will only make them fight all the harder."
