PREMIER OF JAPAN ASSASSINATED IN TOKYO
Tokyo, Japan (JFK+50) On November 4, 1921, Hara Takashi*, Premier of Japan, was stabbed in the chest by a 19 year old "demented youth"** at the rail station here in Tokyo.
The Premier, who was going to Kioto to attend a political meeting, died at the station an hour after the attack.
According to the Associated Press, the Japanese delegation to the armaments conference in Washington, D.C. "was thrown into sorrow and confusion" upon learning of the assassination of the premier.
*Hara Takashi (1856-1921) was born in Montomiya & served in the House of Representatives before being appointed prime minister. HT was the first commoner and first Christian to serve as PM of Japan.
**Nakaoka Kon'ichi was a railroad switchman who believed Hara Takashi to be corrupt.
