"NEW MACHINE FOLLOWS 10 YEARS OF EXPERIMENTATION"

NEW INVENTION PERMITS DAYLIGHT MOVIE PROJECTION

Davenport, Iowa (JFK+50) On November 28, 1921, A.F. Victor, secretary of the National Society of Motion Picture Engineers*, announced the invention of a machine "which...will permit" the projection of motion pictures and steroptical** views in daylight.  The invention follows ten years of experimentation.

Mr. Victor says the invention reverses the "present plan of picture projection" where light is reflected behind the screen instead of from the rear of the theater.

*National Society of Motion Picture Engineers, founded in 1916, is a global professional association of engineers, technologists & executives working in the media & entertainment industry.

Today it is the National Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers.  SMPTE has published more than 800 technical standards, the 1st being the 35mm film width.

**Steroptical (stereoscopic) imaging creates the illusion that an image has depth by showing slightly offset images separately to each eye of the viewer.
