ALLEGED ANARCHIST SEEKING PERMISSION TO RETURN TO U.S.
Riga, Latvia (JFK+50) On December 9, 1921, it was learned that Emma Goldman*, alleged anarchist, had left Moscow and is here in Riga intending to "seek permission to return to the United States."
Miss Goldman, who was deported in December 1919, is staying in the building occupied by the Bolshevik Consulate.
In response to the dispatch, officers of the immigration service stated...
"Emma Goldman is forever banished from the United States and she will not be admitted legally by the government."
*Emma Goldman (1869-1940) was born in Kaunas, Russia (Lituania) & emigrated to the U.S. in 1885. She played a key role in the anarchist political philosophy in America & Europe.
In 1917, EG was sent to prison for 2 years, found guilty of inducing persons to avoid the draft. Upon release, she was deported to Russia.
