"PRESIDENT TO WRITE PUBLIC WORKS SUPERVISORS"

HARDING DISCUSSES ILLS OF SEASONAL UNEMPLOYMENT WITH CABINET

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On January 13, 1922, President Warren G. Harding discussed with his cabinet the topic of "seasonable unemployment* and the hardships it entails."

The President took the opportunity to announce his intention of corresponding with supervisors of public works to request relief for the unemployed.

The New York Tribune reports, however, "that a great many projects, such as road and bridge construction," cannot be undertaken during the winter months, but Mr. Harding is hopeful that "a word from here will stimulate...the first steps in such work."

*Seasonable unemployment occurs when demand for labor decreases during certain times of the year.  Examples are work at themed attractions, in agriculture and tourism.
