"PASTOR WILL PUT YOU OUT OF CHURCH"

LADIES, DON'T COME TO CHURCH DRESSED IN SKIING COSTUMES

Ottawa, Ontario (JFK+50) On January 22, 1922, Rev. Father John J. O'Gorman*, pastor of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, pronounced a warning to "young ladies who come to church in skiing costumes without skirts."

If they do so, he will put them out.

According to the New York Tribune, Father O'Gorman said he would "no more permit girls to attend services in regulation breeches, jersey and jacket than he would permit men to come to church in rowing togs."

*Father John Joseph O'Gorman (1884-1933) was born in Ottawa & educated at St. Patrick's School & College of Ottawa.  JJO was ordained in 1908 & in 1913 became pastor at Blessed Sacrament in the Glebe neighborhood of Ottawa.  He served in the Canadian Chaplain Services in WWI & was injured while evacuating wounded in No Man's Land.
