"BALFOUR GIVES CREDIT TO CHARLES EVANS HUGHES"

ARMS CONFERENCE CONCLUDES, DELEGATES SATISFIED WITH ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On February 4, 1922, as the Arms Limitations Conference meeting here in Washington was in its closing stage, representatives of all nine nations agreed that the conference "accomplished...more in diminishing the armament burdens of peace and removing the seeds of war than the experienced diplomats of the world had dared hope."

Carter Field writes that the last business session of the conference included "speeches on behalf of the nine delegations" expressing satisfaction with what had been accomplished.

On Monday, a public session is scheduled for the signing of treaties and an address by President Warren G. Harding.

British delegation head, Arthur J. Balfour* "gave great credit to chairman Charles Evans Hughes.

*Arthur James Balfour (1848-1930) was born in Whittingham, U.K. & served as PM of UK 1902-1905 & as a member of Parliament 1906-1918.
