MAID RUSHES BACK INTO BURNING HOME TO SAVE DOG
Silver Creek, New York (JFK+50) On Valentine's Day 1922, the Evening Star reports that an attorney's maid here in Silver Creek* "risked her life to save a dog which recently had protected her."
Miss Lydia Harris, employee of C.D. Livermore, made her way safely out of the home after it caught fire. Everyone arrived safely "in night clothing" at a neighbor's house but then Miss Harris remembered the dog had been left behind.
She rushed back into the burning home and brought the fortunate canine out to safety.
A couple of months earlier, as Miss Harris was walking home, two men attempted to kidnap her. The dog she later saved, "drove them away."
*Village of Silver Creek is located on the shores of Lake Erie in Hanover, N.Y. It was incorporated in 1848 & is home to the Festival of Grapes, held in September, to honor Concord grapes.
