MAN CLAIMS $10,000 FOR WALKING AROUND THE WORLD
New York City (JFK+50) On March 1, 1922, sixty-three year old Franz Emanuel Wettberg is to visit City Hall to claim a winning bet of $10,000. The bet was made in 1914 that he could walk around the world.
Mr. Wettberg left Albany, New York on January 15, 1914 and returned this week after completing "the entire trip."
As if walking around the world was not enough, the traveler joined the Finnish White Guards* while in Europe and received a decoration "for gallant service."
*The White Guard (1918-1944) was a voluntary militia unit that defeated the socialist Red Guards in the Finnish Civil War of 1918.
